“The Tale” at Sundance ‘18

This month, TV/Film actor Scott Takeda joined director Jennifer Fox and fellow cast members Jason Ritter, Ellen Burstyn, Common, and newcomer Isabelle Nélisse for the world premiere of The Tale at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. The film screened on the first weekend, garnering the first standing ovation of the festival. As word spread around Park City, the film quickly became the buzz of Sundance, selling out all of the screenings for its harrowing story about sexual abuse in the post-Weinstein, #MeToo era.

After a bidding war, the producers eventually signed a deal to sell distribution rights to HBO Films. The high-end channel plans to air the film later this year.

“We’ve had such a roller-coaster weekend,” said Takeda. “We kicked it off with a very emotional premiere where there wasn’t a dry-eye in the house, then came all the press coverage. And then we concluded with a private party for the cast and crew that included a concert by Common. I can now say that I’ve attended a Common concert and stood in the front row. Simply amazing.”

4/19/18 UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter reports that “The Tale” will premiere on HBO on Saturday May 26 after appearing in special screenings around the country including Tribeca Film Festival.
